As summer comes to a close, I wanted to share one of my favorite adventures I had. Mi amor and I went up to the University of British Columbia and went to the botanical gardens there. It was beautiful outside and the weather was absolutely perfect. I walked through the gardens and saw all the different types of species of trees and plants they had there. I was surrounded by forest and nothing but the quiet fresh air and the sounds of birds.
As we walked along, we came across a thing called a tree walk. There are these rope bridges only suspended by ropes! They stretch from tree to tree, which are giant cedars! Once we started going up the ramps, things started to sway. I am terrified of heights so this was a big step in facing my fears.
There were platforms on the trees but they weren't secured to the trees themselves, all very wobbly. Exhibit A:
And you know how far up I was? 3 stories!! I was so scared but reaching those heights was beautiful. Seeing the forest and garden from that high up was unbelievable. I felt like a bird being among the trees that high up. I could hear them singing and fluttering from branch to branch.
We reached the center platform (above) and we went up even farther on a swirling platform with stairs. It creaked and swayed but after we reached the peak, the rest of the ramps began to descend back towards. It may not sound like much but it was so exhilarating and I faced my fears! Mi amor though, he made it look so easy, Not afraid of being up that high! I don't know how he did it, he's badass.
If you get a chance to go to UBC Botanical Gardens, do it. It's so beautiful and full of trails to walk and plus, you can check out the tree walks! http://botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/visit/greenheart-treewalk/
